Flink is an online grocery shopping application based in Germany with a bold, consumer-focused mission: to deliver orders within minutes at supermarket prices. It is possible due to the smooth cooperation of multiple applications addressing each step of the delivery process, including ERP system and apps for the end-users, riders, and pickers.

Flink is a grocery delivery startup founded in 2020. They raised $240 million in funding within six months and expanded operations to the new countries.

They needed help making their backend production-ready for rapid growth. Speed was crucial so they outsourced the work.

We performed an expert code review and worked on multiple app features. We migrated data from Saleor to Commerce Tools without disrupting end users.

We helped strategically break their monolithic cart/checkout systems into microservices. This improved scalability and let Flink developers work more efficiently.

Pizza Hut is an American restaurant chain and the most popular pizza franchise in Poland. In addition to their brick-and-mortar pizza outlets, their customers can also order food to be delivered via a web and mobile application.

The client wanted to rebuild their website to make the process of ordering pizza quicker and more enjoyable, helping the business increase sales and stand out from the competition.

We developed the app’s frontend focusing on improving every step of the customer journey - browsing products, customizing the order, adding products to the basket, and finalizing the transaction using secure payment options.

We also added a comprehensive analytics module, Google Tag Manager, and built the app with SEO in mind. The app’s performance increased and the comprehensive analytics allows the client to continuously improve the website.

Better performance in 5 months

The team delivered all business-critical features in just five months. The app is now completely refreshed and performs better than expected. Overall, we’re very happy with the cooperation and the results.

Fighting diabetes in African countries

Merck DORA is a product by the Merck Group, a science and technology company that focuses on health improvements with the help of tech solutions and scientific support. So is the example of Merck Dora, a web-based application centered on helping fight diabetes in African countries.

Sneak peek into the project

The Merck Group needed to overhaul and improve their existing web-based application. Keeping in mind key aspects for this app, such as access to the Internet and its connection speed, we delivered a lightweight but still visually appealing and secure app for diabetes treatment where users can assess the risk of falling ill.

Originally, Merck DORA was only available in Kenya. After our partnership, the application became available in other eight African countries, and with different language variants.

Our involvement resulted in further collaboration on three projects: Merck Unite, Merck Life Science, and the Fertility Online Risk Assessment.

We have had the pleasure of maintaining a 10-year technical partnership with Cooleaf throughout various stages of their product design and development.

Thanks to 2 days of detailed design workshop, the client was able to create a completely novel idea for the product. Within just two months, Cooleaf received a Minimum Viable Product and could immediately begin to look for market fit.

After we provided an MVP, Cooleaf came to us with a half-finished mobile app with hardto-maintain legacy code. By switching to the Ionic framework and rewriting the native codebase, the app gained a fresh look and feel.

Seat Unique is an innovative marketplace platform founded in 2018 in the UK to fill the gap in online access to premium tickets and hospitality packages for sport, music and cultural events.

We needed to deliver the basic product that will support huge traffic volumes as fast as possible. Soon after the release of the app, we added a Seller Tool for suppliers, which allows them to manage their own events and ticket packages.

At this point, Seat Unique is capable of providing fans of live events with premium ticket and hospitality packages from official vendors, at good prices, and available for purchase instantly online.

A data-focused investment
platform that removes bias

Uncap - Unconventional Capital is bringing investment opportunities to early-stage companies in Sub-saharan Africa by connecting investors with local business owners. To make sure that the process of financing is as fair as possible, they leverage a unique, data-based process of screening applicants.

Uncap had an expertly-documented idea for the project that outlined the rules and requirements of processing the applications, choosing the most promising ones, applying data-focused screening, and for managing the investment rounds (both from the investor and the business-owner perspective).

We held a workshop to outline project tasks and set milestones. While developing, we identified edge cases and constraints, refining the product accordingly.

After 8 months, Uncap received a product that was ready to collect and process funding applications. Using the platform, Uncap was able to secure over 4,500 applications in the first round of funding.

Comprehensive platform

We worked with Monterail to develop a comprehensive platform that powers the entirety of Uncap’s operations — from the application process, through the evaluation and due diligence to portfolio support & performance monitoring.

A company acquired for $20m

Extradom is a platform that specializes in architectural and real estate advisory for the selection and purchase of a house design. It provides proprietary tools and applications: iDesigner, a 3D house creator application, and a free house design comparison engine.

Stability of the app, shiny UX/UI, and integration with external assets via a REST API were among the development needs. The app also was supposed to be accessible online on every modern operating system and browser without installation.

The application of this size and complexity

demanded a powerful framework. We decided on technologies that would make data management easy, even when dealing with big and complex creations like iDesigner, and would help maintain stability and high performance on every platform the users might access it from. Extradom received a truly customer-oriented solution accessible online which has quickly gained a four-digit group of active users.

Providing full-service experience

Building a 3D Web app is an extremely complicated case, requiring both extensive knowledge and experience. Monterail proved to live up to our expectations in using BabylonJS and providing a full-service experience. Due to their business-wise approach, we were able to answer questions which we wouldn’t have asked on our own.

Building a native app allows you to hook into unique functionalities of a device. Native development allows you to gain high elasticity in development and easily implement existing native libraries.

It provides great responsiveness and performance for both iOS and Android, and has a huge community of developers with a myriad of ready-made features and libraries. OctoberHealth aims to make mental health more accessible in Africa. They believe that everyone should have access to mental health care and support, which is not the case for many people. The company has taken it as its mission to help provide the resources in this gap and fight the three main reasons for the lack of accessibility: stigma, cost, and unawareness.

As they are a company in its early stages, they required a team of experts that could support the creation of the app on all stages from day one. They knew what they wanted in terms of functionality for the app.

We started our cooperation with discovery workshops during which we mapped out user journeys to help understand how the pieces fit together to bring this product to life.

Our main focus was to provide a smooth experience to all users, especially those with a low internet connection to motivate them not to resign from sessions due to streaming problems. We also ensured that data encryption and safe storage of data, crucial in the mental health industry, are incorporated into the app.

Shipping app for eCommerce sellers

Easyship specializes in providing shipping software for eCommerce sellers and growing businesses. The software offers a wide range of courier services, calculates tax and duty costs, prepares paperwork for customs clearance and delivery, and allows tracking of the shipment.

Easyship is a returning customer that we helped by rebuilding their marketing website. Data showed that a mobile app was a next-in-line necessity, and after confirming the business strategy and product roadmap, our cooperation rekindled.

As the backend part of the application has been taken care of by their team, Easyship needed us to build a multilingual mobile app from scratch and integrate it with their web platform.

For the frontend, we used React Native and Typescript. After 5 months, we delivered the MVP that has functionalities tailored for the industry’s needs, like a barcode scanner, a variety of filters for sorting and searching options, live chat support, and much more.

Consistency & quality

My favorite thing about this collaboration is the app’s consistency. All pages have the same high quality and response. Our beta testing users love the app and they can’t even find bugs in the MVP.

20% Monthly increase in the app’s usage

Guild is a messaging app for professionals launched in the UK. Its mission is to deliver a private networking solution for the mobile age. They needed a fast, intuitive app to compete with giants like WhatsApp.

By choosing cross-platform development, it was possible to achieve a great balance between performance and cost, as well as to share 99% of code with the mobile version and 80% of the code in general.

The mobile app for iOS and Android gained exceptional UX without compromising on performance.

Right after the release, Guild raised $1.2M (£880,000) in seed funding for further development and growing sales.

Mobile farrier app streamlining and managing hoofcare

Mustad Hoofcare Group is the world’s largest seller/manufacturer of hoof care products. They have been serving farriers, horse owners, and veterinarians since 1832. Equinet, Mustad’s mobile application, marks a milestone in the company’s digital transformation.

Mustad came to us to build an MVP they wanted to further develop into the minimal marketable stage. The project scope expanded beyond initial plans and the original MVP faced challenges adding additional features, preventing

the application’s launch.

After changing frameworks, we built a minimal marketable product designed for a non-digital audience that would function without internet connection and handle native device functionalities.

The end user benefits by having scheduling, invoicing, inventory, images, and more in one application. As a business, Mustad is able to provide an unprecedented level of customer service and better understand their clients and manufacturing processes.

Turning MVP into minimal
marketing product

Together with the team, existing of React Native and Ruby developers, we came to the conclusion that if we wanted a minimal marketable product that supports offline mode, we had to eject from Expo and refactor the MVP to a decent foundation; resulting in a crash rate of 0%.

Steven De Backer, founder and CEO of Afriwise, knew what the fast and effective solution would be, he had a clear concept in mind, however he and his legal team needed the tools and a team to help them design it and build it.

We conducted discovery workshops, and then, using an MVP approach with a flexible scope, we turned the client’s idea into a highly performant, secure, and accessible online legal platform.

Currently, the app involves more than 100 of Africa’s leading legal counsel and thousands of experts in 20 countries. It also received international recognition by winning the Innovation Award at the 2019 African Legal Awards.
